Background
The Southland Times from July 2009
Elton Etana Livingston, 30, unemployed, was sentenced to six years and one month in jail, with a minimum non-parole period of three and a half years, for aggravated burglary on May 22 and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on May 23. Judge Phillips said after hearing his neighbour had been threatened by the victim, Livingston went to his home and carried out a vigilante-style attack. He took to the man with a metal table leg, hitting him in the head, and continued to hit him as he tried to flee inside. He had injuries to his head, ribs and had serious bruising, Judge Phillips said. Livingston was also sentenced for threatening to kill on December 9 and driving while forbidden on February 11.
