Christchurch: A 31-year-old Dunedin man, who turned himself in last month after several months on the run, has added two more robberies to a long list of offences he has already admitted in the Christchurch District Court.

Justin Wiremu Keremete, unemployed, yesterday admitted robbing a bank and a video shop after police reduced the charge from armed robbery. They had accepted the claim through defence counsel David Bunce that Keremete was not carrying a weapon at the time.

Keremete is due for sentence in mid-August for a series of armed robberies, kidnapping, burglary and wounding. He has now also admitted robbing a bank at Papanui, Christchurch of an undisclosed amount on January 14. He kept his right hand in his jacket pocket throughout and said he had a gun, although none was sighted.

On February 23, he took $194 from a Woolston, Christchurch, video store after demanding money from the shop attendant "in a serious, powerful and threatening manner", police said.

The shop assistant said he was seen to be fiddling with something beneath his shirt. Keremete remains in custody awaiting sentence. Judge Graeme Noble asked for a probation report and victim impact reports to be prepared.
