From the Dominion and other sources
Edmonds threatened to kill the victim and her partner upon release from Mangaroa prison on parole in April 2001. Police, a womens refuge and social workers took the threats so seriously they assisted the victim and her two children to flee to Australia according to ACT MP Steve Franks. The offender was given an 18 month suspended sentence. This was successfully appealed by the Police, and he was sentenced to 9 months in June 2001
