Sentenced to nine years, reduced to seven on appeal in May 2004
Eligible for parole March 2005
Background
From NZ Herald story May 22 2004
"A three-times convicted robber was sentenced too harshly the last time he offended, the Court of Appeal has ruled. It reduced Rangi downs' jail term from nine years to seven. Downs, 47, was still on parole from a previous robbery when he held up a petrol attendant at gunpoint at New Lynn in 2002. The court said it was a relatively unsophisticated and unplanned robbery, and not a bad case of its kind."
