Sentenced to 10 months home detention in November 2007
Background
From a NZPA story 23 November 2007
A 19-year-old Wellington man was sentenced to home detention in Wellington District Court today after holding up a dairy attendant at knife-point.
Chad Clarke was given 10 months' home detention after being convicted of the aggravated robbery in April this year. Clarke's lawyer Sandy Baigent said he was intoxicated and had no recollection of the incident, However he was deeply remorseful. Judge Bruce Davidson said the robbery was premeditated and Clarke obviously had a problem with alcohol.
Home detention was appropriate because of his age, family support and relatively good record, Judge Davidson said. He did however point out the sentence would not be easy. "This will be a very difficult sentence for you to serve, the temptation to breach the sentence will be enormous, but if you do you will go to jail for two and a half years," he said. Two others involved in the robbery were earlier sentenced to 300 hours' community work.
