Background
Baker's wife left him six weeks before the incidents. She was living alone in a flat and was afraid of her husband, who believed she was having an affair. She was found shot in the head, dead on the bathroom floor. Baker was lying on the bed also shot in the head. He told police his wife had asked him to bring a gun to shoot some stray cats and he had called in at 7am on his way to work. He said she suggested they have sex. As she enjoyed a form of bondage he tied her arms to the bed headboard. Afterward the had an argument and she took the gun, shot him, then shot herself. The Crown however said Baker was obsessed with his wife's affair and called in to kill her, but first tied her to the bed and raped her, then tried to commit suicide.
