Background
EVENING POST, 6th August 1998
A rapist has had a year cut from his prison term for helping police identify his co-offender.
Paora Enoka Ahomiro, also known as Paul Wilkinson, had his seven- year sentence for sexual violation by rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary reduced to six years in the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Delivering the judgment, Sir Kenneth Keith said Ahomiro gave police information without which the investigation could have lasted longer and may have been unsuccessful. Ahomiro and his co-offender broke into a woman's home, tied and gagged her, and raped her several times before burgling the house. A cumulative prison sentence of six months for another burglary and a three-month concurrent sentence for breach of periodic detention were unaffected.
